Bolivar Medical Center The Bolivar Medical Center offers Family Practice Residency rotations, under the direction of the WVU School of Medicine. John has helped obtain substantial state funding to maintain this program, and to establish WVU's Robert C. Byrd Health Sciences Center- Eastern Division.
	Bolivar-Harpers Ferry Public Library John arranged funding to help with a major expansion.
Old Tobacco Warehouse This historic structure at the bottom of Princess St. in Shepherdstown was built in 1789. John obtained funds for a feasability study on restoring this facility, which was followed by the actual restoration funding.
	School House Ridge Battlefield The battle of Harpers Ferry in the Civil War took place at this site, located off Bakerton Road. John obtained several state grants to help preserve this nationally significant historical site, protecting it from development. For his work, John was one of two state legislators to win the 2002 National Legislator of the Year award from the Civil War Preservation Trust.
